The AMAZING Turmeric Root!
According to the Mayo Clinic, turmeric root has natural anti-inflammatory compounds called curcumin oils that help fight diseases including cancer and type 2 diabetes. There are also studies suggesting that turmeric root is also very beneficial for reducing anxiety and depression(click for article). It is available as a daily supplement like this turmeric mix or as a spice. Either way, be sure to consult with your doctor to make sure it is safe for you
My suggestion …is to put this spice on foods that can use a little added South Asian flavor. In other words, prepare your food as usual and add some turmeric and black pepper while it cooks. I have sprinkled Turmeric on scrambled eggs in the morning, in beef stews, and even used it as an added spice on a slowly baked chicken with rice. Use about a teaspoon and combine it with black pepper to help your body absorb and use the nutrients.
I have no medical degree and only write about my personal experience. When I tried it, all I could think was, “Yay!” Using turmeric root reduced inflammation in my ankles and feet. If you have a chronic disease or prolonged inflammation issues you should definitely seek the advice of a licensed medical professional. However, if you know what is going on with your body and want to try something different, turmeric root could be helpful. If you have tried it or decide to give it a try, please share how it works for you?
